Your whole bill.
A useful comparison.
We start with grid imports from your bill, already net of direct solar and any battery you own. A proposed battery can store solar you would otherwise export. Free midday charging can top up remaining storage, within the confirmed window, whole-house allowance, charging power and evening demand.
The free-power comparison includes outside-window rates, daily supply charges and feed-in tariffs. Higher charges can outweigh free energy. Current prices use one average rate and proposed paid hours use two; replace these examples with usage-weighted figures from your actual plans.
Battery payback uses only savings created by storage, excluding savings available by changing plans without buying a battery. The free offer is assumed for one year by default, then the model returns to solar storage at the current tariff. The 15-year projection includes 2% annual capacity degradation and is separate from any warranty.
For solar + battery projects, enter forecast grid imports after direct solar use and the battery portion of your quote. Panel costs and generation savings are excluded. A full year of interval data gives a more reliable assessment than daily averages.
Offers and eligibility can change.
Victoria’s Midday Power Saver has been available since 1 October 2026 for eligible households who opt in, with a daily 11 am–2 pm window and up to 24 kWh shared by household imports. Confirm retailer rates and equipment compatibility. The example prices are not the regulated tariffs or a retailer quote.

Battery savings questions.
Does this include free midday electricity?
Choose Free midday power to compare a proposed plan with your current bill. The estimate includes remaining household allowance, grid-charging limits, losses, outside-window prices, supply charges and export income. Examples are not live retailer quotes.
What if I already have a battery?
Enter imports from your current bill and choose I have solar + a battery. Energy your existing battery already supplies is included in that bill and is not counted again. Only additional grid charging is valued; no payback is assigned to an existing purchase.
Is this a battery quote?
No. It is an educational estimate. An installation proposal needs to account for your electrical system, existing solar, equipment, site conditions and scope of work.
Should I enter the battery price before or after the federal discount?
Enter the installed battery cost after any discount shown on your written proposal. The calculator does not subtract a fixed rebate automatically. For a solar + battery quote, enter only the battery portion.
Why does the feed-in tariff matter?
Solar used to charge a new battery may otherwise have been exported. We subtract that forgone export value and include changes to the feed-in tariff when comparing plans.
Does the result include blackout backup?
No financial value is assigned to backup. The reserve reduces capacity available for bill savings. Actual backup depends on equipment, selected circuits and available power and energy.
Can interval meter data produce a better estimate?
Yes. A full year of interval imports and exports shows when solar is available and when you use electricity. Daily averages cannot reproduce seasonality, time-of-use tariffs or simultaneous loads.
A calculator is the starting point.
Compatibility, backup design, switchboard work and your interval data still shape the right battery.
